One day, I was looking through a fabric website.  I was looking for the perfect fabric for my Dad’s Christmas and Birthday quilt.  I knew I wanted to make a Disappearing Nine Patch quilt, I just didn’t like any of the fabric choices for him.  He was a Geologist all of his career and loved teaching about Geology.  So, I wanted something that would reflect my Dad’s passion.

Then, I saw a fabric that I thought would be perfect.  Northcott produced a fabric that looked like rocks and stones.  What could be a better match of fabric and Dad; rocks and fabrics that looked like rocks!

For this quilt, I used Northcott’s Stonehenge Everest Chips cotton fabric.  I added a border from Stonehenge Collection Wheat Limestone Fabric and Stonehenge – Nature.  The backing is the Stonehenge Collection Wheat Limestone Cotton Fabric.  The Batting is Warm and Natural, double batted for extra warmth and thickness.  For the finishing touches, I added a binding in Artisan Spirit Shimmer Chocolate.

The quilting design was my own creation using time worn ideas.  I stitched in the ditch around each piece of the nine patch, adding swirls for the first inner border, and a long feather around the large outside border.

The quilt is the about full size.  I ended up giving it to him, before measuring it!  It is a beautiful quilt, especially on their sofa!

Have a wonderful day!

Laura
